Working as part of an expert team, and showcase your skills
Mark’s career began with promise. After finishing college, he earned National Diplomas in both electrical and mechanical engineering.
However, becoming a Dad at a young age meant he needed a steady income — fast.
He took jobs in retail and hospitality, whilst continually improving and working his way back to engineering.
Whilst he’d gained great experience, living out of hotel rooms and travelling day after day meant Mark wasn’t getting the enjoyment from life that he craved.
Missing bedtime stories, weekend fun and birthday parties. Something needed to change.
Then he saw my advert.
Mark quickly thrived in his new single-site environment. He soon familiarised himself with the way things worked and was able to deliver excellent results and build meaningful relationships.
After six months, Mark became eligible for the 9-day fortnight, a system where half the day off is gifted by the company, and the other half is made up across the rest of the fortnight. It means he now gets a full weekday to spend quality time with his newborn and be there for the school pickup.
For the first time, work fits around life, not the other way around.
Mark, proud of his success at Starling Red
"This is the only job role that I've ever had, that I've felt the job appreciation, not just from Andy, but from the residents that we do the work for as well.
So in the previous role, I was traveling all over the UK and all over Europe and the Nordics. I would spend five days a week in hotels, which was not suitable with the young family.
My favourite thing is that I've got such a good routine with the services now, and I like the bit of camaraderie you can have with the residents.
You're treated fairly, you're spoken to properly, and you're well looked after, it’s great.
The job appreciation you get working here is second to none.”
Mark, Starling Red
"Andy at Starling Red has been an absolute lifesaver for us over the years in our apartment! He is always professional, punctual, and incredibly helpful. No matter the issue, big or small, Andy responds quickly and gets the job done efficiently. It's always such a relief knowing that we can always count on him. I highly recommend Starling Red to anyone in need of top-notch maintenance services. Thank you, Andy, for your outstanding work!"
“Andy and Mark have dealt with issues in my apartment in BPS several times over the last few years. They are very friendly, super efficient and will always get the job done. They are incredibly knowledgeable about the heating and ventilation systems in our apartment and they can sort out many other issues as they have for me - just ask and they will give an honest appraisal!”
"As a property management company, we strongly recommend Starling Red for all the home repair works needed around the Battersea Power Station area. In our experience with them, they are very familiar with the plumbing system, underfloor heating and air-conditioning unit in the development. They can identify and solve the issue more efficiently than other companies; most of our work is finished in one hour, and all sorted."
Let me tell you a little about our company, Starling Red.

We think this is a brilliant opportunity (yes, we’re biased), but it won’t suit everyone, and that’s totally fine. We’d rather be upfront than waste your time.
If you thrive on solo jobs in empty properties with minimal interaction, this probably isn’t for you.
If you prefer the freedom of life on the road, working across different postcodes with a van as your castle, this role might feel a little too fixed.
If the idea of working on the same site each day sounds repetitive, or you’d rather not deal with the day-to-day interactions that come with occupied homes and friendly tenants, this might not be your ideal setup.
We’re building a close-knit team that works together in a high-quality residential environment. That means being part of a shared space, showing up with good energy, and being the kind of person who notices problems and fixes them without being asked.
If you take pride in doing things properly, enjoy working with people, and want to be part of a place that values attention to detail, then this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
If you take pride in your work and strive to do the right thing, we'd love to hear from you.
1) What qualifications or experience do I need for this role?
You don’t need formal qualifications, it’s experience that counts. We’re looking for people with specific experience in installation, maintenance and fault finding for the heating and cooling systems of new build apartments. However, we recognise that qualifications like NVQS are a great way of proving your skills. If you have them, please let us know - we’d love to hear everything you can bring to the table. If you’re hands-on, reliable, and take pride in good work, you’ll fit right in.
2) What kind of work will I be doing?
As Experienced FCU/Mechanical Engineer you will carry out a range of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks on heating and cooling systems within apartments, as well as other general maintenance activities. You will also support and guide other engineers, using their expertise to ensure high-quality service and smooth processes across our team.
3) Is this a full-time job?
Yes, it’s a full-time ‘on the books’ position with all the perks that come with that. Plus, after your probation period, you’ll have the option to move onto a 9-day fortnight — giving you a built-in extra day off every two weeks.
4) What are the working hours?
You’ll work Monday to Friday, either 7:30am–4:00pm or 8:00am–4:30pm. Currently, we don't work weekends or late nights, and we don't have any plans to change that. If you’re ready for a better work-life balance, apply now, don’t miss out.
5) Do I need my own tools?
No, we provide a full tool set and trolley, plus, we’ll cover costs for any specialist tools you’ll need. If you prefer using your own familiar tools, you’re welcome to bring them too. Either way, you’ll be fully supported to do your best work.
6) Will I need a vehicle?
No, you won’t need a vehicle. Our business model is to operate within a single site location. You’ll be based within the apartments around Battersea Power Station.
7) How do I apply?
It’s quick and simple. To receive full instructions, click the 'apply' button below and we'll hurry over your full instructions. As part of the process you’ll be asked to complete a short, but enjoyable task to double check your suitability for the role. The faster you apply, the faster we can get the ball rolling — so don’t put this off.
